Best Portugal D7 Visa Lawyers & Advisers (2026)

Compare 18 Portugal D7 Visa law firms and advisers by credentials, regulator, fees and client expertise.

Quick answer: this directory lists 18 Portugal D7 Visa providers, unranked and ordered by verification status. Use the filters to narrow by provider type, language and fees; listings cannot buy placement.

Portugal D7 visa lawyers handle the passive-income residence route: the one for people living on a pension, rental income, dividends or other regular income earned outside Portugal. It is the main alternative to the golden visa for applicants who intend to actually move.

The D7 turns on evidence, not investment. Before you pay anyone, the question a good adviser answers is whether your specific income sources qualify as regular and passive — and how much time you will be expected to spend in Portugal afterwards.

    The Income Test

The D7 income requirement is anchored to Portugal's minimum monthly wage (RMMG), which is €920 per month for 2026 — about €11,040 over twelve months for the main applicant. Additional family members raise the requirement, and the exact uplift should be confirmed with counsel against current AIMA and consular practice rather than taken from a blog table.

Consulates want the income to look durable, not incidental: statements over a meaningful period, a source that will continue, and documentation that ties it to you. Advisers differ on how they treat remote employment income in particular, because that often points to the D8 digital nomad route instead. Confirm your specific sources before signing anything.

The Residence Trap Most Applicants Miss

The golden visa's famous minimum-stay rule — 7 days in the first year, 14 days in each later two-year period — does not apply to the D7. This is the single most common misunderstanding, and it is expensive.

The D7 is a genuine residence route. Under Lei 23/2007, a temporary residence permit can be cancelled when the holder is absent from Portugal without acceptable reason for more than 6 consecutive months, or more than 8 non-consecutive months across the permit's validity. Longer absences have to be justified to AIMA. If your plan is to hold Portuguese residence while living mostly elsewhere, say so in the first call — the D7 is probably the wrong route.

    How to Choose D7 Counsel

The file runs in two stages: a consular application in your country of residence, then an AIMA residence appointment after you arrive. Ask explicitly who handles each stage, because some firms prepare the consular file and hand you off at the border.

Confirm the specific lawyer with the Ordem dos Advogados, get fees itemised — legal work separately from consular fees, translations, apostilles and any tax advice — and ask who is responsible for your first renewal. See the full ranking methodology for how these listings are assessed.

    D7, D8 or Golden Visa

If your income is passive and you intend to live in Portugal, the D7 usually fits. If you work remotely for foreign clients or an employer, the D8 digital nomad route is normally the better match. If you want residence without relocating, that points to the golden visa — and to a different, investment-led conversation.

Several firms in this directory cover more than one of these routes, which is useful when your circumstances sit near a boundary. Compare Portugal immigration lawyers for the broader picture, and ask specifically whether the firm handles nationality work if naturalisation is the eventual goal.
