Bar-number check: 2 of 5 listed firms have a lawyer with a verified bar number. How we verify

Quick answer: this directory lists 5 USA E2 Visa providers, unranked, with paid profiles listed first. 2 independent firms have passed GVL's full firm credentials check, a separate review from the bar-number count: Harvey Law Group and WR Immigration (Wolfsdorf Rosenthal). Use the filters to narrow by provider type, language and fees.

The E-2 is a US treaty investor visa. You must be a national of a country with a qualifying treaty with the United States, have invested or be actively investing a substantial amount of capital in a real, operating US business, and come to develop and direct it, which USCIS ties to at least 50% ownership or operational control (USCIS).

There is no fixed minimum investment. The business may not be marginal: it must be able to generate more than a minimal living for you and your family, or be expected to within five years if it is new (8 CFR 214.2(e)).

How to Choose an E2 Visa Lawyer

Ask whether the lawyer is admitted in a US state and who signs the filing. Many investment-migration advisers listed here are not US law firms and work alongside US counsel; ask which arrangement you are buying. Our verification methodology explains what a directory credential label does and does not prove.

A useful first assessment should test three things in writing: whether your nationality qualifies on the State Department's treaty country list, whether your investment is substantial relative to the cost of the business, and whether the business plan shows it is not marginal.

    Consulate or Change of Status

Applicants outside the United States apply for an E-2 visa at a US consulate. Someone already in the US in lawful nonimmigrant status can ask USCIS for a change of status on Form I-129, but not from outside the country. Initial stays are up to two years, with extensions in increments of up to two years and no limit on the number of extensions (USCIS).

Spouses in valid E-2 status are employment authorised incident to status. The E-2 does not lead to a green card by itself; investors who want permanent residence often compare it with the EB-5, covered by our EB5 lawyer directory.

What a Fee Quote Should Cover

Ask for a written price that separates the eligibility review, business plan, source-of-funds tracing, the consular or USCIS filing, family members and renewals. Government fees, business-plan writers and accounting are usually separate. Directory fee bands describe a provider's broader services where published; they are not an E-2 quote.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum investment for an E-2 visa?

There is no fixed minimum. The investment must be substantial relative to the cost of the business, at risk, and enough to make a non-marginal business viable. Ask a US immigration lawyer to test your numbers before you commit funds.

Which nationalities qualify for the E-2?

Only nationals of countries with a qualifying treaty with the United States. The State Department publishes the current list; some investors acquire a qualifying second nationality first, which needs separate advice.

Can my spouse work on an E-2?

Yes. USCIS treats spouses in valid E-2 status as employment authorised incident to status.

Does the E-2 lead to a green card?

Not by itself. It is a renewable nonimmigrant visa. Investors who want permanent residence usually look at the EB-5 instead or as a later step.
