After five years, permanent residence also requires A2 Portuguese, means of subsistence, accommodation, tax and social-security compliance and an acceptable criminal record. Golden visa permanent residence has no minimum stay requirement. Standard permanent residence is different: it can be lost after more than 2 years in a row outside Portugal, or if you spend less than 6 months in Portugal in any 3-year period.
