Can I switch from the golden visa to a D7 residence permit if I decide to live in Portugal?

    1 answer

    1. It is possible to change the type of residence authorisation in Portugal. For example, someone who initially obtains residence through the Golden Visa programme may subsequently change to a D7 residence authorisation.

However, it is advisable to make this change when the existing residence card is approaching its renewal date.

If a new residence process is initiated during the validity of the existing residence authorisation, the previous residence process will most likely need to be cancelled, as it is not possible to maintain two different Portuguese residence processes active in parallel at the same time.

For this reason, the transition should be properly planned and coordinated around the renewal period to avoid unnecessary complications or interruptions in the applicant’s residence status.
